Gabriela RUIVO

Gabriela Ruivo has lived in London since 2004. She was winner of the Prémio LeYa in 2013 for her first novel, Uma Outra Voz, which was also awarded with Prémio PEN Clube Português Primeira Obra (ex-aequo) in 2015 and published in Brazil in 2018 (LeYa – Casa da Palavra). Her other works include the poetry collection Aves Migratórias (On y va, 2019), Espécies Protegidas (short stories, On y va, 2021), and Lei da Gravidade, her most recent novel, published by Porto Editora in 2023 and shortlisted for European Union Prize for Literature in 2024. She translated Uncle Tom’s Cabin (A Cabana do Tio Tom) by Harriet Beecher Stowe from English to Portuguese (Sibila Publicações, 2020). She manages Miúda Books, an online bookshop specialising in children’s literature written in Portuguese, and is the head of AILD Cultural Team in the UK (International Association of Luso Descendants), where she co-founded PinT – Portuguese in Translation – Book Club, a group meeting bi-monthly on Zoom to discuss books by Portuguese-language authors translated into English. She’s a member of Clube das Mulheres Escritoras (Women Writers Club), an initiative aiming to promote the work of contemporary Portuguese female authors.

Elle dirige Miúda Books, une librairie en ligne spécialisée dans la littérature pour enfants écrite en portugais, et dirige l'équipe culturelle de l'AILD au Royaume-Uni (Association internationale des descendants luso), où elle a cofondé PinT – Portugais en traduction – Club de lecture, un réunion de groupe bimensuelle sur Zoom pour discuter de livres d'auteurs de langue portugaise traduits en anglais. Elle est membre du Clube das Mulheres Escritoras (Club des femmes écrivains), une initiative visant à promouvoir le travail des auteures portugaises contemporaines.

Union Prize for Literature in 2024. Ze vertaalde Uncle Tom's Cabin (A Cabana do Tio Tom) van Harriet Beecher Stowe van Engels naar Portugees (Sibila Publicações, 2020). Ze beheert Miúda Books, een online boekwinkel gespecialiseerd in kinderliteratuur geschreven in het Portugees, en is het hoofd van het AILD Cultural Team in Groot-Brittannië (International Association of Luso Descendants), waar ze medeoprichter was van PinT – Portuguese in Translation – Book Club, een tweemaandelijkse groepsbijeenkomst op Zoom om boeken van Portugeestalige auteurs, vertaald in het Engels, te bespreken. Ze is lid van Clube das Mulheres Escritoras (Club van vrouwelijke schrijvers), een initiatief dat tot doel heeft het werk van hedendaagse Portugese vrouwelijke auteurs te promoten.
