Matgorzata Lebda (1985, Żeleźnikowa Wielka)

Matgorzata Lebda (1985) grew up in Żeleźnikowa Wielka, a village in the Beskid Mountains. Poet, scientist, columnist, ultramarathon runner, mountaineer, and photographer, she holds a Ph.D. in Literary Theory and Audiovisual Arts. Culture animator (conducts literary and poetry workshops, and also curates cultural events).

She has six volumes of poetry. Her book Matecznik (Gueen Cells, 2016) has won the title of the Kraków Book of the Month, Stanistaw Barańczak Fellowship (the Poznan Literary Award) and Konstanty Ildenfons Gałczyński Prize. Her poetry book Sny uckermarkerów (Uckermarker Dreams, 2018), was shortlisted for the „Silesius Literary Award” and won the 2019 Gdynia Literary Prize - one of the most prestigious and significant awards in Poland, in the Poetry category.

Her last poetry book Mer de Glace (2021) has just been nominated (shortlisted) for the most important Polish poetry awards: the „Silesius Literary Award” and "Wisława Szymborska Award" – category: The Best Poetry Book. Creator and activist trying to deal with current important topics. In September 2021, she ran a distance along the largest Polish river, the Vistula (1.113 kilometers - from the source to the Baltic Sea), to draw attention to the problem of rivers destroyed. She is working on a prose debut.
