Vónbjørt VANG

Vónbjørt Vang (1974) is a writer, academic, librarian and chair of the Faroese Writers Union (Rithøvundafelag Føroya). She has had short stories and poems published in a variety of journals and anthologies. She first published her own volume of poetry in 2011 entiteld Millumlendingar (“Stopovers”).  In Vónbjørt Vang’s latest collection, Djúpini (“The Depths”), published in 2017, her lyrical prose poems span 24 hours, from sunrise to sunset, and depict the cycle of nature and life. The recurrent theme is decline and death - the experience of being close to people who are growing old and dying, and how it is to embrace the fall. Despite the rather dispiriting subject, Vonbjørt Vang’s poems give expression to the great light and beauty of death. Djúpini is published by Eksil and the cover and illustrations are by Lena Nicolajsen.
